Getting to St Andrews for The Open 2022

St Andrews is a coastal town on the East Coast of Scotland between Edinburgh and Dundee. It is located in and area of Fife known as the ‘East Neuk’, a very pretty part of Scotland. The Old Course is close to the town centre, situated beside the sea at the North end of St Andrews.

Arriving by Road

St Andrews has good road links to the rest of Scotland. Journey times from Edinburgh are around 1.5 hours from Edinburgh city centre. Glasgow is approx 2 hours drive away.

Travel by train

St Andrews does not have it’s own railway station. The nearest station is Leuchars which is 5 miles, or 10 mins drive away. Leuchars is on the East Coast mainline, so most trains travelling North from Edinburgh stop there. Journey time from Edinburgh is approx 1 hour. Many people will be arriving by train and it is a good way to avoid roads which may get congested while the golf championship is being played.

You can check train times and ticket prices on the Scotrail website.

Nearest Airport to St Andrews

Edinburgh Airport is the closest airport to St Andrews, being approx 1 hour drive away. You can fly direct to Edinburgh Airport from most cities in Europe, as well as New York, Boston, Orlando, Philadelphia and Chicago in the USA.

Non-stop flights to Edinburgh are provided by Air Canada, United, Lufthansa, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Air France and Delta airlines.

If you are flying from anywhere other than Europe or the USA, there are connecting flights to Edinburgh (EDI) from London, Amsterdam and many more cities.
